Xbox 360 Will Support USB Hard Drives

thumbdrive-t.jpg

Running out of hard drive space on your 360? Itching to bring your game saves over to a friend's house, but not thrilled about lugging your entire hard drive? Well Microsoft has heard your complaints because they will be allowing USB mass storage devices to be able to connect to the Xbox system.

The requirements for the device is that it must have at least 1GB of memory, 512 MB of which will be occupied by the system partition. The consumer, that's us, gets to use whatever is left over. The catch is that the device cannot exceed 16 GB, so we're strictly talking about thumb-drives here.

Note that you can use up to 2 devices, giving you 32 GB of save space. Connecting more than 2 will not get you anywhere because only 2 slots will be recognized. Hopefully if public demands wins out, we may see the 16 GB limit lifted in the future, but don't hold your breath -- I hear those $99 hard drives do pretty well for Microsoft.

Look for the new feature to be implemented in the next dashboard update.
