Xbox 360 Hackers Had A Field Day With Gears Of War 3

Piracy is a serious problem in the gaming industry, and a new report has revealed which games were targeted most by pirates for the year 2011.

TorrentFreak, along with IGN.com released a report which detailed the most pirated Xbox 360 games for the year 2011.

This was a very interesting report say the least as it attempted to try and put numbers to the number of pirated copies of games downloaded over the internet.

For years, PC games were the victim of piracy, but the past few years have shown a serious rise in piracy among console gaming as well, including Xbox 360 as well as PS3, and Nintendo Wii games.

Epic Games' Gears of War 3 topped the list as the most pirated game for the year 2011.

According to the report, over 890,000 illegal downloads of Gears of War 3 were recorded for the year 2011.

This was followed up closely by Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 which came in at 830,000 illegal downloads, and Battlefield 3 at 760,000 illegal downloads.

At $60 per copy of the game, this amounts to roughly $53 million in Gears of War 3 game sales, an alarming statistic to say the least.

The top 5 were rounded out by Forza Motorsport 4 at 720,000 illegal downloads, and Kinect Sports Season 2 at 690,000.

Future consoles including the Sony PS4, Nintendo Wii U, and Xbox 720 hope to do a better job to battle piracy than in the previous generation.
