The Microsoft Xbox 360 continues to absolutely dominate the gaming market in the U.S., as the console accounted for nearly half of all console sales in the U.S. in the month of February 2012.

Microsoft managed to sell 426,000 Xbox 360 consoles in February 2012 in the U.S.

When you compare that number to the other consoles, the Xbox 360 sales made up 42% of the entire market for that particular month, nearly half.

The Xbox 360 topped the Nintendo Wii, which sold 262,000 units.

The Nintendo 3DS also continues to hold its own, selling 135,000 units.

The Xbox 360 though has shown that it has managed to stand the test of time, as Microsoft touted that it brought in $383 million in revenue in February 2012 alone.

This revenue was from console sales, as well as the sale of software and accessories.

Looking at the U.S. video game charts tells a more detailed story of the console's dominance, as the Xbox 360 has 5 out of the top 10 games in terms of sales in the U.S.

Based on the continued success of the Xbox 360 console, it is becoming very clear as to why Microsoft does not appear to be in any rush to release a follow-up, successor to the Xbox 360.

The successor to the Xbox 360 is rumored for a holiday 2013 release as of right now.
