The World Cyber Games, the planet's biggest and most successful e-Sports tournament and festival, officially kicked off the 2007 Grand Final last Thursday with the opening ceremony scheduled at 6pm at Qwest Field in Seattle, WA. A record 700 players from 74 countries joined in on the festivities, highlighted by an Olympic style ceremony featuring flag bearing by participating countries, speeches by WCG personnel and Washington Lieutenant Governor Brad Owen, and concluded with the reading of the oath of fair play.

Over the course of the weekend, the World Cyber Games offered spectators a variety of interactive activities to enjoy, including the 'WCG 2007 Samsung Mobile Challenge', hands on gaming stations to try out the latest and greatest Xbox 360 and Games for Windows titles (including the highly anticipated Rock Band), WCG Circuit City Mobile Coach, WCG Photo Zone by Samsung Digital Camera, PC cleaning session by Dust-Off, WCG 2007 Thermaltake Player's Lounge and much more. Giveaways of Xbox 360 consoles, Samsung monitors, MP3 players, and digital cameras represent just some of the many exciting prizes that were available to attendees of the event.

Additionally, on October 6th, there was a workshop on 'Women in Gaming' at the Educational Track of WCG, held by DigiPen Institute of Technology. Speakers from companies such as Microsoft, Gas Powered Games, Valve, Wizards of the Coast among others explored the development of games from four different perspectives (Programming, Design, Art/Sound and Production). These seminars, as well as all activities at the Educational Tracks, were free of charge to anyone attending the WCG 2007 Grand Final.

The 2006 Grand Final in Italy broke new ground in broadcast coverage for a competitive gaming tournament as 24 million people tuned in to watch the competition unfold in real-time, marking the first-ever global, live satellite broadcast for an e-Sports event. This year, the World Cyber Games significantly expanded its reach through 'Game Head', a weekly gaming program of Spike TV, live satellite broadcasting though Ongamenet(Korea's eSports and gaming broadcaster), NeoTV(China's eSports and gaming broadcaster) and real-time Internet broadcasting throughout the world through NeoTV.com, GGL.com, worldcybergames.com.
