WCG 2007 Pan-American Championship Results Announced

The second annual World Cyber Games Pan-American Championship wrapped up this past weekend, where North and South America's best gamers battled for cash and prizes in Cancun, Mexico. The 7 game- tournament took place over three days and featured a who's who of gamers from many countries in North, Central and South America. The competition also featured some of the most intense and competitive matches of the 2007 World Cyber Games tournament series, as many familiar faces once again squared off in the finals.

Team USA had a very strong showing, with nine top three finishes, including three first place prizes. Winning American gamers included:

Vanessa "PMS Vanessa" Arteaga (Dead or Alive 4) - 1st place
Sean "Day" Plott (Starcraft) - 1st place
Wesley "ch0mper" Cwiklo (Project Gotham Racing 3) - 1st place
Emmanuel "Master" Rodriguez (Dead or Alive 4) - 2nd place
Team Darkside (CS 1.6) - 2nd place
Felipe "KreeganBG" Stoyne (FIFA '07) - 2nd place
Sean "Maximus" Heffelfinger (Project Gotham Racing 3) - 2nd place
Milo "MrMilo" Phillips-Brown (Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs) - 2nd place
Randy "Hippo" Solberg (Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs) - 3rd place

"The city of Cancun opened its doors to the World Cyber Games and put on the best Pan-American games yet," said Mr. Hyoung Seok Kim, CEO of ICM. "With an incredible list of sponsors and a great venue, Cancun was an ideal location to host a major e-Sports competition."

The Pan-American Championship Opening Ceremony began Saturday and included welcome speeches from: Hyoung Seok Kim, CEO of ICM (the worldwide organizing committee of WCG); Joo Ho Song, President of Samsung Electronics Mexico; Daniel Cervantes, Director of Latin America for Microsoft XBOX and Mario Valle, Sales & Marketing Manager for Electronic Arts Mexico.

Members of the Pan-American Team USA will next compete in the US National Finals, taking place at Universal Studios in Orlando this September. Winners of the US National Finals will represent the United States at the 2007 World Cyber Games Grand Final in Seattle, Washington in October.

With well over one million players from more than 70 countries, the World Cyber Games is widely regarded as the gaming world's premier e-Sports tournament and cultural festival. Featuring online and offline events held throughout the world, the year-long series attracted more than 1.3 million competitors world-wide in 2006. The 2006 WCG Grand Final in Monza, Italy broke new ground as more than 24 million people tuned in to watch the competition unfold in real-time, marking the first-ever global, live satellite broadcast of an e-Sports event.
