French publisher Ubisoft today announced its lineup of upcoming games for the 2009/2010 fiscal period. It will be comforting to fans to know that many of their favorite franchises are due for a sequel very soon. Among the highlights in the company’s financial prospectus for the upcoming year are Assassins Creed 2, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell: Conviction. A new intellectual property called “I Am Alive” has been moved back from its original release date and will now ship sometime in the 2009/10 period.

Assassin’s Creed 2 has been in development for more than one year, but very little is known about the game at this point. Fans of the first game are eagerly awaiting news of the sequel, since the original title ended on a cliffhanger that was not resolved. Recently it was rumored that whatever location Ubisoft has chosen for the new game, it will involve water and the ability of the main character to swim.

I Am Alive is a third-person survival adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic Chicago. Very little is known about the title so far, other than it will place a heavy emphasis on environmental puzzle solving. It is also rumored that Jade Raymond from the Assassin’s Creed team is working on this project.

One of the most interesting tidbits of information to emerge this week came from company president Yves Guillemot, who let slip that Ubisoft is definitively working on the long-rumored Red Steel 2 project for the Wii. The original Red Steel was praised for its mature, action-based appeal, but criticized for sloppy sword fighting controls and lack of depth. Red Steel 2 will evidently provide support for the Wii Motion Plus attachment, which enhances sensitivity.
