Tomb Raider Underworld Demo Coming October 28

If you are anything like us, it might have been a while since you devoted any serious time to playing a Tomb Raider game. For a while it seemed as though developers' creativity on the video game side was inversely proportional to the popularity of each of the Angelina Jolie vehicle movies. But now Eidos is back with a new entry in the franchise, dubbed Tomb Raider: Underworld. It will be the first new Tomb Raider adventure to take full advantage of all the flashy new hardware available this generation, so that makes it kind of a big deal.

In order to convince apathetic gamers like us that the new game has returned the series to form, Eidos is releasing a playable demo on Xbox Live. This new demo of Tomb Raider: Underworld will be available for download starting Tuesday, October 28th. The demo will cover a portion of the Thailand stage. According to developer Eric Lindstrom, it was not easy to settle on a location to feature in the demo version of the game:

"It was a real struggle to pick a location -- they're all so different and cool -- for a number of reasons. We didn’t want to show something too far into the game, both for spoilers and because of the training ramp. We also wanted to provide an area that maximized opportunities to do everything that's new throughout the game, but no single early location could do that. We also wanted to show an area that was unusual for Tomb Raider games, but in the end the Thailand expedition is just so beautiful and full of play opportunities that it really was the only choice."

The Thailand section featured in the demo includes a nice mix of swimming, climbing, animal extermination and puzzle solving, giving gamers a taste of what they can expect from the final retail version of the game, which ships on November 18th. We are actually looking forward to having a crack at this new demo when it is released tomorrow, and we will let you know what we think of the most recent entry in the Tomb Raider series after giving it a try.

Lara Croft, tiger exterminator
Sure, you might have to off a few tigers in the game, but that's just how Lara rolls.
