Square Enix to Publish Supreme Commander 2
The Japanese publisher Square Enix has been on the prowl for Western game properties in an effort to expand its market in the lucrative North American and European markets. The Japanese company, most well known for its hit RPG franchises, has begun reaching out to smaller development studios in the United States to develop these new non-RPG titles. The latest partnership announced between Square Enix and Gas Powered Games will see the Japanese publisher involved in Supreme Commander 2, the follow-up to Gas Powered’s successful PC real-time strategy sim.
The original Supreme Commander (2007) was dubbed by developers as the “first true RTS”, because it focused on grand strategy at the continental scale, allowing players to zoom in and out of different portions of the map to see battles unfold. The PC version received generally positive reviews, and it was followed up by a release on the Xbox 360 in June of 2008. We are certain that with Square Enix behind the project, Supreme Commander 2 will release for consoles as well as PC from day one.
