Second Batch of Gold Found in Velvet Assassin Reality Game
Fans of alternate reality games have a chance to find some actual buried treasure, but you are going to have to work for it. A worldwide scavenger hunt based on Gamecok’s upcoming game Velvet Assassin has players cracking codes in the US and the UK to find their share of a rumored cache of Nazi gold.
The premise behind Velvet Assassin is that players take on the role of resistance fighter Violette Summers as she reminisces on her hospital bed about the battles she fought during WWII. Described as an action-stealth hybrid, the game will ship to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC platforms this fall. The alternate reality contest, called “Violette’s Dream”, ties into the plot of the video game, as players seek out caches of long-lost treasure spread around modern-day locales.
The first batch of gold was found by an American by the name of Dee Cook. After several months of phone calls, email exchanges, trips to local bookstores and some online sleuthing, he found a real bar of gold and a replica of rumored Nazi treasure in Fredericksburg, Texas. See? We told you it wouldn’t be easy.
Now, Russell Kent from Great Britain has been able to locate another cache of hidden treasure in London. By cracking a code hidden in a national British newspaper, deciphering a message and finding a cell phone number, racing against the clock to get a letter left in a London bar, and picking up a package in left-luggage at Victoria Station, Kent was able to walk away with a hunk of gold.
It sounds like there is rumored to be a third cache hidden somewhere in France, so head over to the main ARG site at Violettesdream.com and get cracking!
This could be buried in your backyard.
