Rumor: Dead Rising 2, eh

Capcom isn't quite ready to reveal the sequel to their successful zombie kill-a-thon, but sources close to the company say it is indeed under development. In an interesting twist, industry insiders say that the game has been outsourced to a western development studio based in Vancouver, Canada. Blue Castle Games is allegedly behind the project, and has put out a cryptically-worded job posting which states “It's getting around - there is something amazing being built here at Blue Castle behind locked doors”. Blue Castle is a small studio which has primarily worked on sports games, such as the popular baseball series, The Biggs.

The decision to put a relatively unknown studio in charge of development gives us hope for two reasons. Firstly, the developer’s experience with sports games means that weapons such as hockey sticks and baseball bats will likely behave super-realistically this time around. Secondly, we feel that a western game company can produce a more streamlined experience compared with the first game. Many of the complaints about Dead Rising stemmed from cultural differences in Japanese video game design. A broken save system, clunky controls and a convoluted, ridiculous storyline got in the way of the sheer pleasure of killing zombies. Hopefully Blue Castle has taken note and will deliver with Dead Rising 2.
