One of the most endearing characters in Rare's new game, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is the self-appointed Lord of All Games. This sarcastic robot dishes the trash talk like no other NPC before him, threatening to usurp even the deadpan GLaDOS for pure masochistic laughs. At one point in the game, however, the Lord of Games dishes some juicy news on new titles in development from Rare. If the pong-faced sovereign is to be believed, Rare is currently working on follow-ups to some of the most beloved retro franchises of all time. The games are:
Battletoads -- Gained notoriety as one of the hardest games on the NES console. This sidescrolling action obstacle course was a gauntlet of punishment in a sea of other difficult but not impossible 8-bit games.
Jet Force Gemini -- Goldeneye and Perfect Dark may have gained Rare the most fans on the N64, but Jet Force Gemini was a gem that deserves its own accolades. Part shooter, part platformer, JFG is a rare classic and will make fantastic source material for an HD re-boot.
Killer Instinct -- A Super Nintendo game that began life in the arcades during the heyday of 16-bit fighters. Killer Instinct is a lot like Mortal Kombat, but better.
Ghoulies 2 -- Grabbed by the Ghoulies was an Xbox title released in 2003. The adventure game was a confused mixture of other Rare franchises including Conkers Bad Fur Day. It didn't help matters that the entire title was ported from the GameCube once Microsoft bought the software company. Grabbed by the Ghoulies didn't fare overly well with reviewers, but it did show some promise. Hopefully Rare can find a clear direction for the sequel and give this title a life of its own.
