Protecting Your Xbox Live Account From Hackers

While the Xbox Live network is safe, utilizing many security features to protect players from hackers and other threats, it is important for players to take extra precaution. With the advent of online Xbox tournaments, it has become increasingly risky for players when it comes to being hacked.
The first point is almost common knowledge: do not use your credit card to make purchases on the Xbox Live Network. As is the case with all types of online purchases, your credit card number can easily be obtained by hackers, so it is always wise to use other methods of payment. Xbox, for example, allows you to use Microsoft points card to make purchases. This is highly recommended as it means that you don't have to send personal details over the internet.
Also be sure to limit yourself to one account and not to transfer information between two separate accounts. By sharing your information between two different consoles, you run the risk of having other accounts accessing your information. If you have to transfer information, use a memory card or hard drives instead of transferring data via the internet.
Finally, keep your personal information to yourself. Sharing any personal data online, even with a close friend, still has the potential to be seen by others. If you have to, do so through a secure means.
