The folks at Namco Bandai are supremely confident in the success of their recent 3D fighting game, Tekken 6. The company today announced that it has shipped a total of 2.5 million copies worldwide for the launch of its game. Now, keep in mind that those are shipment numbers, and not final sales figures. If retailers can't sell all of the copies sent them, the games will be returned to a very embarrassed publisher. The total number includes regular, Arcade Stick and Limited Edition bundles of the game. In certain territories an exclusive Tekken 6 PlayStation 3 hardware bundle is also available.

Tekken 6 is among the world's most popular and well-known gaming brands, with franchise sales of more than 34 million units since its original launch 14 years ago.

According to the publisher, Tekken 6 brings the biggest character line up in the series history, brand-new Scenario Campaign mode, spectacular high-definition 60fps visuals with full-time variable animation blur, and an array of online fight play options.

The Project Director for Tekken 6, Katsuhiro Harada, is particularly hopeful that the game will be a success in Europe:

'This is a big day for us. The European market and fans have always been very important to the success of Tekken, so we're thrilled that Tekken 6 will finally be in their hands today. More than 50% of Tekken fans worldwide are from Europe and their feedback has played a crucial role in helping to shape the game. Reflecting this, many of the new characters added are from Europe. I hope everyone enjoys Tekken6 and that they continue to support the franchise, and I look forward to seeing you all online.'

Speaking of online play, features include Ranked Match, Player Match for training, the ability to upload ghost characters and match replays, and leaderboards for Europe, Asia, America and the world. Coming this winter via a free downloadable update, the online Scenario Campaign mode will let players team up with friends around the globe for intense two player online co-op campaigns against AI controlled enemies in massive-scale battles. Sounds pretty awesome if they can pull it off.

Fans who want to show off their fighting skills in front of an audience can take part in the real King of Iron Fist Tournament, with public Tekken 6 competition events taking place since early October across Europe and Australia. The winners from each country will come together to compete in a grand regional final in London on December 12th to establish once and for all the true Tekken god.
