Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe Sells 1.8 Million Copies

US Publisher Midway games has struggled to stay afloat in the current economic recession, but they definitely have a minor hit on their hands with Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. The company announced today that they have sold 1.8 million copies of the game worldwide to date. That isn’t bad at all, considering that the title shipped on November 21, 2008. There was also a lot of strong competition this year from current-gen fighters like Soul Calibur IV, but Mortal Kombat fans rallied to the cause and supported this excellent fighter. The game allows players to take their favorite Mortal Kombatants up against comic book heroes from the DC comics universe. Midway is undoubtedly relieved that the game sold well, since the publisher has been teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-founder and creative director had some encouraging words for his team: "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was the result of countless hours of hard work by many people, and seeing the game surpass the million-seller plateau makes it worth all the effort," he said. "We're already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future."

In our feature review of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, we praised the game for its highly-detailed graphics and creative use of interactive environments. It is also great to hear that Midway already has more Mortal Kombat planned for the future. Kudos to Boon and the entire development team behind this game.
