Microsoft Extends Warranty for E-74 Error

We have some great news today for Xbox 360 owners. Microsoft has listened to customer complaints and has stepped up to the plate to address the E-74 error issue. Unlike the Red Ring of Death, this error is displayed as white text on the screen. It usually occurs when the console is overheating, and has been described by Microsoft as a "general system failure". As such, it is not very different from the three red lights problem, and Microsoft has decided to offer extended protection to consumers who suffer this other, lesser-known issue.

According to an official company statement, Microsoft will now repair any Xbox 360 suffering from the E 74 problem for free under its extended 3-year warranty:

"While the majority of Xbox 360 owners continue to have a great experience with their console, we are aware that a very small percentage of our customers have reported receiving an error that displays "E74" on their screen. After investigating the issue, we have determined that the E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007."

The company will also reimburse owners who had their E 74 problems fixed by the company while outside of the warranty. There is no need to contact Microsoft, they will have your check in the mail sometime during the next few months.
