Lionhead Reveals Fable 2 Expansion

Today, Lionhead and Microsoft issued an early Christmas present for Fable 2 fans: a downloadable expansion pack called Knothole Island. The downloadable content adds a whole new landmass, characters and quests to the main storyline. The extra content will be available for download in mid December, for the price of 800 Microsoft points ($10). A free companion pack will allow players who don’t have the paid content to join in main storyline quests with their friends who do, although in order to do any of the missions on Knothole Island, both players will need to have the paid version.

We know little so far about the new storyline, but Lionhead have revealed a few tantalizing details about the premise behind the expansion. Hundreds of years before the main quest takes place, a tribe from Knothole Glade discovered the existence of an island far off the mainland. A mysterious power here was said to offer its inhabitants full control over the weather. Tired of constant Balverine attacks and the damp, dreary climate of the mainland, the tribe elders decided they would find this mythic island and settle there. The ancient civilization that originally lived on the island created magical artifacts that control the weather, and hid them in dangerous caves so that their warriors would be tested every year (ahem, dungeons).

Now, the remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine. The DLC will also come with new items including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, Weight Loss Potion and a collectible silver book to help heroes on their way.
