Halo Wars Board Game, Toys Coming Soon

halo_wars_toys_icon.jpg

The virtual world is about to reach a hand out of the television screen and vertically integrate your face with some real-life toys based on the Halo universe. Thanks to an agreement between Microsoft and board game manufacturer USAopoly (as well as an undisclosed sum of money, we are sure), the Halo franchise will be reborn this summer in the form of a Risk board game. According to the manufacturer, this new board game will combine elements of the two strategy games - "Halo Wars" adversaries will engage in strategic battle for domination of Arcadia. We just hope they have kept that little connecting bit between Kamchatka and Alaska.

There will also be a construction playset based on the "Halo Wars" universe, available in Fall 2009. The line is comprised of buildable playsets ranging from 65 to over 350 pieces, and will feature elements from the video game, with highly detailed vehicles, weapons and articulated micro-scale action figures. If we weren't WAY to old to be caught in the same room as a "construction play set", we imagine that we could actually have some fun with this. In private. When our girlfriends weren't looking. Each set includes UNSC Spartans or Flame Marines, and Covenant Elites or Grunts. The Halo Wars Collection of toys will be marketed under the Mega Bloks umbrella.

Finally, McFarlane Toys has announced that it too will be jumping on the money train with its own lineup of collectible figurines. The heroic-sized figures are 2.5-inches tall and have mobility at the waist. They will be available starting in March 2009.

The truly attentive Halo fanboy will have already noticed that one could combine the figurines, building blocks, and Risk game into one geektastic cocktail, but we will leave it up to you to pull it off without your girlfriend catching you.

Whatever you do, don't call it a construction playset.
