Fallout 3 Patch Improves Graphics on 360

Bethesda has issued a patch for its apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3, meant to prepare the core game to accept the upcoming expansion DLC called "The Pitt". But prepping the game for the upcoming DLC is not the only thing this patch does. Some eagle-eyed detectives over at the Digital Foundry have found that the latest patch adds specular reflections to objects in the game world, something that was missing from the game when it originally shipped. Those highlights -- which make shiny objects appear to be actually shiny -- were present in the PS3 and PC versions of the game. To see what we are talking about, have a look at screenshots from our Fallout 3 platform comparison. The shiny bits that you can see on the backs of insects and Rad Scorpions are now present on the Xbox 360. With this update, the Xbox 360 version comes within striking distance of a low- to mid-end PC, making it the ideal platform to play this game if you are living under a rock and have not done so already.

This is great news for fans of this game, and we advise everyone to grab this patch whether they are planning to buy the additional DLC or not.

We're not sure we like our giant cockroaches to look even more realistic.
