Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage Details

Bethesda has planned three new DLC updates for their epic RPG Fallout 3. In the first DLC pack called Operation: Anchorage, the player will take up arms against the Chinese red army in Alaska. The entire DLC is expected to last from 4-5 hours of play time, and takes place inside a computer simulation that Fallout 3 players will already by familiar with. The Operation Anchorage DLC will be accessed seamlessly from within the Fallout 3 world. Since it is a simulation, the player will have to first travel to the location on the map and then enter the virtual combat simulator. In a recent interview with IGN, producer Jeff Gardiner said that the first DLC pack is mainly focused on combat/stealth content. There will not much in the way of divergent storylines or decisionmaking until later packs are released.

Once inside the "Game", players will be tasked with a series of military objectives. The Chinese red army swarms the map, and the player will have to neutralize the enemy before fighting their way into the Chinese base. Bethesda says that this DLC will ad a number of new weapons, skills and gadgets to gameplay. The most interesting addition will be the ability to call in an artillery strike anywhere on the battlefield. Pictured below is one of the new weapons from Operation Ancorage. Could it be.... the Gauss Rifle?

In the interview, Gardiner also revealed that weapons and armor will be usable in the main game as well. How can this be, when the DLC is supposed to be a simulation? Perhaps the location that houses the virtual reality simulator is also an armory stocked with some of the top-secret weaponry used during the conflict. At any rate, we look forward to unleashing our newly-acquired military prototypes on Ghouls and radscorpions back in the main game.
