Dead Space Headed to Wii
The Internet was abuzz this morning with news that the futuristic survival horror title from Electronic Arts will be headed to the Wii. Dead Space is expected to follow in the footsteps of Dead Rising as an Xbox-to-Wii port and is due out later in 2009. Electronic Arts revealed the news in its financial third quarter conference call with investors. Incidentally, Dead Space just surpassed the 1 million mark in sales, making it a minor hit for the Vancouver-based publisher.
According to the company, this project is part of a plan to bring a more "core" experiece to the Wii. During the short announcement, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello promised that the game would be of high quality, even though the Wii has technical limitations compared with its bigger console brothers.
We are happy to hear that EA continues to support the Dead Space IP, if only because it means there is a greater chance that they will pursue more original projects like this in the future. Without knowing any details about the Wii port, it is impossible to speculate on the quality of the finished product.
However, if EA can ensure that it keeps the core gameplay intact while highlighting the things that the Wii does best (motion controls), we imagine that Dead Space Wii could turn out to be one immersive, creepy experience.
