Los Angeles’ CompLexity Takes the Top Honors

The Championship Gaming Series (CGS), the only worldwide professional gaming league, today announced that its United States teams swept the top three placements, and 5 out of the top 6 places, winning over $10,000 in prize money plus cutting-edge computer hardware from Newegg.com.

The Championship Gaming series teams placed as follows at The LANfest2K7 Counter-Strike: Source tournament:

1st place: CGS’ Los Angeles CompLexity
2nd place: CGS’ San Francisco OPTX
3rd place: CGS’ New York 3D
5th/6th place tie: CGS’ Chicago Chimera and CGS’ Carolina Core

"When CGS launched, it was our number one intention to make sure we recruited the best players in the United States, and looking at these tremendous results proves we have succeeded in that goal," said CGS CEO and Commissioner Andy Reif. "We are extremely proud of our teams and all they have accomplished at the LANfest2K7."

"We were thrilled to have the CGS teams compete at the LANfest 2K7 this year," said Bernard Luthi, Vice President of Product Marketing and Merchandising at Newegg.com "The teams’ exemplary showmanship raised the bar and helped to make this a world class event."

LANfest2K7 marked the first reunion of the CGS’ United States squads since the United States (Region 1) season ended in July. The Carolina Core and the Chicago Chimera will represent the United States at the CGS 2007 World Championship in December when the league’s top twelve teams from around the globe vie for the $1 million dollars in prize money and the ultimate title of World Champion.

Valve’s Counter-Strike: Source and EA’s FIFA 2007 are the official PC games for CGS. On the Xbox 360, CGS features Tecmo’s Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4) and Project Gotham Racing 3 (PGR3) from Microsoft Game Studios.

Each CGS team features a total of ten athletes, each specializing in an official League game. Five of the ten players comprise a Counter-Strike: Source squad which competes in five-on-five matches. FIFA 07 is played one-on-one. Each CGS team also has a mixed-doubles team of two DOA4 players, who will play against other teams in one-on-one matches on Xbox 360. The racing game PGR3 is played by two players on each team in a two-versus-two format.
