Championship Gaming Series Announces Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro as Official Team Cities

Mexico City will host CGS Qualifier & Draft 21st -23rd September
Mexico City – September X, 2007 – Championship Gaming Series (CGS), the first worldwide professional gaming league, today named Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro as official team cities for the league. The team names and identities will be revealed at the Mexico City and Rio Team Drafts on 23rd September at the CTT Stage in Mexico City. Top players from across Latin America will converge in Mexico City for the opportunity to represent Latin America on one of these two Team Cities.
“Latin America has amazing and vibrant gaming communities. We’re proud to add teams from Mexico City and Rio to the league and excited to give these elite Latin American gamers an opportunity to compete against the best in the world at the World Championship in December,” said CGS Commissioner Andy Reif.

Each player on the Mexico City and Rio teams will receive a contract with annualized payments of (USD) $30,000 and the possibility of taking home an additional (USD) $70,000 in prize money. Both teams will compete at the CGS World Championship in Los Angeles in December, along with other top gamers from around the world, including two teams from the UK, two teams from Europe, two teams from the United States, two teams from Asia, one team from the Middle East, and one team from Australia. Payments for CGS professional gamers worldwide will total approximately (USD) $5 million in 2007.
The games featured in the Championship Gaming Series are Valve’s Counter-Strike: Source and EA’s FIFA 2007 are the official PC games for CGS. On the Xbox 360, CGS features Tecmo’s Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4) and Project Gotham Racing 3 (PGR3) from Microsoft Game Studios.
Each CGS team features a total of ten athletes per team, each of whom is a specialist in an official league game. Five of the ten players comprise a Counter-Strike: Source squad who compete in five-on-five matches. FIFA 07 is played one-on-one. Each CGS team also has a mixed-doubles team of two DOA4 players, one man and one woman, who will play against other teams in one-on-one matches on Xbox 360. The racing game PGR3 is played by two players on each team in a two-versus-two format.
