April Fool's News We Wish Was True
Yesterday was April Fool's, in case you didn't notice, and video game publications the world over were out in full force trying their darndest to make, well, fools out of us. Even our own Gameflavor Network wasn’t above a little bit of April Fool’s trickery, but hey, it was all in good fun. The most successful pranks tend to be outlandish without being utterly implausible, so that enough gullible folks get sucked into the vortex of foolishness. There were a few April Fool’s pranks in 2009 that had us stroking out chins pensively, wondering “what if?”
Here are the best April fool’s jokes from 2009 that we kind of wish were real:
Shenmue 3: This prank actually bordered on cruelty as far as fans of the Sega franchise are concerned. After mediocre sales of Shenmue 2 on the failed Dreamcast console more than 8 years ago, Sega has not been forthcoming with a sequel to the beloved franchise. And that’s kind of a bummer, since the designers imagined the story arc as a trilogy. Don’t leave us hanging any longer, Sega!

Alpine Legend: Who says that music games always have to feature the same old guitars and drums? Why not mix things up a bit and feature music from different cultures? This April Fools from Microsoft might not be exactly what we had in mind, but it is a step in the right direction:
World of Quake Live: And who says that MMOGs always have to be about elves and orcs? Quake Live is an online service that promises to allow multiplayer Quake matches through your browser, which is already cool enough in our estimation. But for April 1st, the company added a bit of massive multiplayer action into the mix, with the promise of endless grinding to over-level our uber quake characters. We also like the idea of rideable epic mounts in a first-person shooter. Someone make this happen please.
