Shift 2 : Realism At A Glance

need_shift_icon.jpg

Shift 2 is a sequel to the extremely popular Need For Speed Shift. With its release two days ago many fans of the Need For Speed series consider purchasing the next installment. Noted by EA to take a huge step away from its usual arcade style racing, the series puts the player in a realistic racing simulation. The 17th version of Need for Speed is bound to have everything down to a science. But with EA just recently switching focus to realism over arcade, how have they coped with this change?

Shift 2: Unleashed will feature over 145 cars from over 37 manufacturers with over 36 different tracks to race on. Online game play will return as well as an in car helmet cam, night-time racing, and the auto log feature.

This game does the racing genre great bringing in exciting game modes like drifting, retro muscle cars, as well as GT1 racing. This game is packed full of different cars and game modes, it's bound to be another success for those who have been bit by the car bug.

The new night-mode will really hone your driving skills in the dark. Damage headlights from hitting barriers could cause you to not see the track in front of you. Even worst, night blindness might take place when the drivers behind you have their headlights shining in your rear view mirror.

Take it a step further and use the helmet cam to get you literally right in the helmet of the driver. When you take turns your head will move around with the physics of the car. Your driver will look into the turn allowing you to see it better. Realism seems to be a top factor for EA in producing this game.

Their is no doubt Shift 2: Unleashed has taken the "you're the driver" experience to an all new level. But many fans who crave a realistic driving simulation wonder if this is a better bet over more popular racing games such as Forza 3 or Gran Turismo 5. From the videos and screen shots we've seen it would be a safe bet to put this game up there with Forza and Gran Turismo. Shift 2: Unleashed is available now for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
