Bioshock 2 Multiplayer Details

Just as video games were about to claw their way out of the cultural ghetto in the games-as-art debate, along comes the announcement that Bioshock 2 will feature multiplayer deathmatch. We're not even sure how we feel about a sequel to our 2007 game of the year, let alone the idea of shooting other players in the face over Xbox Live, but there it is. The whole thing is like the equivalent of announcing a follow-up to George Orwell's classic political satire 1984, but in comic book form, and with big honkin' titties on the front cover.

Later this year, 2K Games will ask us all to step back into the submerged world of Rapture. Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of this underwater city once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture for some unknown purpose. You are the very first Big Daddy as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and your own survival.

According to the developer, Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a rich prequel experience that expands the core BioShock gameplay. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject in the underwater city that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the game's toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed during the unique multiplayer experience.
