Batman Arkham Asylum Collector's Edition Gives Grown Men Excuse to Play Dress-Up

Robin: Holy wallet gouge, Batman! Is that a fancy Collector's Edition of your new game I see?
Batman: That's right. Take it in, Man-boy Wonder. Behold my fancy batarang and leather-bound diar... er... journal.

The market has seen its fair share of uber special editions, including the cat helmet for Halo 3 and Lancer for Gears of War 2. As special editions go, Batman: Arkham: Asylum Collector's Edition holds its own as a sweet looking collectible. Life-size batarang and a metallic case to go with it? Now that's the way to put a package together, guys.
A hundred bucks is kinda steep, but considering you can find movie prop replicas for around the same price, the fact that you're getting both the prop and the game makes it more palatable.
The developers are hyping this up as the be-all, end-all of Batman games. Leave it to Eidos' head of UK marketing Jon Brooke to call it "as close to perfect as we've ever come ..." But cut through the slick sales talk and you'll quickly recall the long track record of horrible Batman games. Industry impressions do sound favorable though. If you're doubtful, head over to the hands-on footage we have up from GDC and take a look for yourself.
Final judgment should be held off till the game launches, but for optimistic Batman devotees looking to get their hands around something more solid than flimsy playground gear should really think about locking down this rare chance to own a batarang.
