50 Cent: Blood on the Sand Story Trailer

Wait, the upcoming 50 Cent game from THQ has a story? Yes it does, according to Julian Widdows and Gavin Cooper, two designers who contributed to the upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 game. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand takes 50 and his G Unit to a fictional (read: third world) country, where they become embroiled in a violent and destructive battle for a rare artifact. Call it “50 Cent and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” if you like.

Interesting tidbit: around the 1:14 mark, listen as Widdows says “When we found out it was going to be a 50 Cent game…” Does this suggest that the title, developed using the Unreal 3 Engine, was originally going to be something else? A next-gen Full Spectrum Warrior perhaps?

In addition to the plot details revealed in this developer diary, the video also gives us a look at some of the running, driving and even flying mechanics that the team at Swordfish Studios have included this time around. They seem pretty enthusiastic about their work on this title, and we must say that the core gameplay doesn’t look all that bad. Maybe this sequel will redeem rap-themed video games and restore the genre to its once glorious heights.
